The sources told NBC News and NBC station WDIV of Detroit that state Attorney General Bill Schuette will announce criminal charges against two employees of the state Department of Environmental Quality and one who works for the City of Flint.

Reuters reported that Attorney Valdemar Washington, who represents the residents in the lawsuit, said they were considering filing an appeal of O’Meara’s ruling.

“I was asked to do this by a lot of residents, by the press, so I’m just following through on what I was asked to do”, he said of drinking and cooking with filtered Flint water.

However, as Michigan’s Bridge magazine has detailed in a comprehensive timeline of events leading to the crisis, assigning blame to the actual culprits in this debacle is a little more complicated than merely focusing on the first Republican in the chain of command.

It’s expected criminal charges will be announced. The corrosive river water wasn’t properly treated and caused lead to leach from old pipes into homes and businesses.

A spokesman for Governor Snyder, Ari Adler, says they have not seen the details.

Among those who will be charged is a city of Flint official who allegedly signed off on a document stating the homes used to test tap water under the federal Lead and Copper Rule all had lead service lines, which investigators say is false, according to a report from The Detroit Free Press. There are a number of federal and state class-action lawsuits still pending.

Subsequently, city officials switched back to use water from Lake Huron, but the problem of contaminated water still remains. In January, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in Genesee County, which includes Flint.

Also Tuesday, Flint Mayor Karen Weaver she is not impressed by Gov. Rick Snyder’s pledge to drink Flint tap water that’s run through a government-approved filter for a month.

Last month, Snyder told House lawmakers the drinking water crisis was the result of failures by the local, state and federal governments.
