Ticketmaster Customers to Get Some Money Back

Ticketmaster customers will soon be getting some money back.

The company recently agreed to pay $386 million to settle a class action lawsuit filed more than a decade ago. The plaintiffs claimed that some of Ticketmaster’s fees were deceptive and misleading. Ticketmaster disputes those claims.

Under the terms of the settlement, anyone who bought tickets through Ticketmaster.com between October 21, 1999 and February 23, 2013 is eligible for a refund. But there’s a catch: you have to buy more tickets in order to claim it.

Sometime around June 18, 2016, voucher codes will be automatically added to your Ticketmaster online account. Customers will receive one code for each ticket they purchased during the class period, up to 17 tickets.

Each code is worth $2.25 off a future purchase. Two codes can combined for a total discount of $4.50 per transaction. Once the codes are used, they will disappear from your account.

There is a second type of discount code for customers who opted to have their tickets shipped via UPS. These codes are worth $5 each and can only be applied to purchases where UPS shipping is selected.

If not enough people claim their refunds, Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, will make a select number of free tickets available to class members. Those will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at Live Nation’s discretion.

Ticketmaster is notifying customers of the settlement by email. They declined our request for an interview.

A spokesperson said, “All information regarding the benefits to which class members are entitled as well as instructions regarding how to redeem those benefits is included in the email received.”
