BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of a suspected shoplifter who drowned after running from Arundel Mills mall security officers is suing the shopping center’s security staff for allegedly chasing him to his death.
The Capital reports (http://bit.ly/28Io7Ri) Tavon Talley’s family filed the lawsuit against Valor Security Services and Mydatt Services in Baltimore City Circuit Court in February.
The lawsuit states that in 2014, four security guards and a store manager, also a defendant in the suit, chased 26-year-old Talley from inside a store, where he was suspected of shoplifting, to a nearby pond where Talley jumped in and didn’t resurface.
The lawsuit says the defendants then failed to call 911 immediately. Talley’s body was later recovered.
Thomas P. Bernier, the attorney representing the defendants, declined to comment citing the ongoing litigation.
