OKLAHOMA COUNTY– A lawsuit was filed Friday with the Oklahoma Supreme Court to stop the expansion of turnpikes.
The lawsuit claims the way the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has been funding road projects is unconstitutional.
The statute being questioned states that bonds issued by the authority can be used for multiple turnpikes in the state system.
The suit contends this is in violation of a constitutional provision that laws must address only a single subject, rather than rolling several issues together for the sake of getting them approved.
900 million dollars in bonds had been approved for distribution over the next couple years to expand and renovate the Oklahoma turnpike system.
A hearing is scheduled to take place on September 20th.
