Christian School Files Lawsuit Over Prayer

UPDATED (AP) — A Christian school in Florida is suing the Florida High School Athletic Association claiming the group violated the school’s constitutional rights.

Cambridge Christian School’s federal lawsuit says the FHSAA refused to allow the school to offer a prayer over the loudspeaker before the Division 2A state championship football game last December.

Jeremy Dys, senior counsel for First Liberty Institute, which is representing the school, says the case is a clear example of governmental interference in a private school’s right to exercise its religious freedom. The school is asking that the organization’s existing policies in line with freedom of speech and free exercise of religion rights guaranteed by the U.S. and Florida Constitutions.
