Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Psychiatric Patients Claiming They Were Isolated Nearly 24/7 for Nearly a Year

Charles White is escorted into the Carbon County Courthouse on June 21, 2010, where he was sentenced to life at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs for two counts of deliberate homicide and aggravated kidnapping. White is one of four psychiatric patients who are named in a lawsuit against the state alleging extreme psychological and emotional harm while under the state’s care.

Four patients at a Montana State Hospital facility at Galen are suing the state and several hospital staff, claiming they were subjected to long-term isolation nearly 24 hours a day for more than a year. The facility, shown in 2002, previously operated as a juvenile detention facility.
