FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — The mother of a Virginia inmate who died in jail is suing officials, saying her son’s urgent medical needs were ignored and contributed to his 2017 death.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Victoria Sisson filed a lawsuit Monday accusing officers and medical staff at Piedmont Regional Jail of ignoring Jason Sisson as he suffered from medical complications.
Another inmate reportedly attacked 39-year-old Jason Sisson and upon his return from receiving care for skull fractures, Sisson didn’t receive a check-up or required monitoring for days. The suit, citing video footage, says he banged on his cell, bled and passed out.
He was later taken off life support from brain damage.
An officer was fired for falsifying records saying he made mandated checks.
The lawsuit seeks more than $100 million in damages. Jail officials declined to comment.
