Mercer County Property Owners Could Wait on Drill Settlement

Property owners in Mercer County who sued Halcon Resources, a Texas based gas and oil drilling company, over failing to drill could wait longer to get their settlement.

The two companies who negotiated the leases for more than 60,000 acres of land want a hold on that settlement.

The companies’ attorneys say property owners in the class action lawsuit will owe them six to eight percent of the settlement they receive from Halcon.

Attorneys for the property owners say the two companies didn’t negotiate the settlement with Halcon, so the plaintiffs owe them nothing.

Halcon says it had the right to refuse to drill, but settled to avoid the expense of continued litigation.
