More Than 300 Manhattan Parking Lots Sued for Charging $2 Fee

Two parking chains that control more than 300 garages in Manhattan were hit with class action lawsuits in Manhattan Supreme Court this week for charging customers an extra $2 if they use credit cards to pay for temporary parking.

Icon Parking and Quik Park tack on the “processing fee” for credit card customers paying the hourly rate unless they arrive early enough to get the early bird special.

The peeved parkers, Russell Spitzer of Middletown and Margo Stankus of Pearl River, contend that the so called “processing fee” is really a surcharge that is illegal to impose under New York State’s General Business Law.

Officials at Icon, which controls more than 200 garages, and Quik Park, which manages 140 garages, could not be reached for immediate comment.
