A couple who claims NBA player Matt Barnes assaulted them in a trendy Manhattan nightclub is going to sue him, their lawyer said Wednesday.
Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell say Barnes, 36, who plays for the Sacramento Kings, went berzerk on them at the Avenue nightclub on 10th Ave., said their lawyer, Michael Lamonsoff said.
The duo also plans to sue Barnes’ teammate DeMarcus Cousins, Lamonsoff said. A press conference was scheduled for Thursday.
“The assault occurred as the young couple were enjoying a night out with their friends,” Lamonsoff said in a statement.
“They were all sitting at a table in the VIP section of the popular nightclub and conversing when Jasmine was suddenly and brutally attacked by professional basketball player Matt Barnes.”
A couple is going to sue NBA player Matt Barnes (22) after accusing him of assaulting them at a Manhattan nightclub.
Lamonsoff claims the 6-foot-7 Barnes choked the 5-foot-5 Besiso.
Powell tried to stop him, and Cousins allegedly stepped in and sucker-punched Powell in the face. Barnes then allegedly took his hands off of Besiso’s neck and elbowed her in the face, knocking her out.
Barnes and Cousins and members of their entourage punched and kicked Powell in the head and chest, the lawyer said.
Paramedics took Besiso and Powell to Lenox Hill Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
Barnes has denied any wrongdoing.
“There’s always two sides to a story,” Barnes posted on Instagram Monday afternoon. “The side the media consistently tries to paint of me … And what actually happened! Don’t believe everything you read.”
His lawyer said he is cooperating with a police investigation, which is continuing. There have been no arrests.
