NWA McDonald’s to Pay $103K to Settle Discrimination Lawsuit

LITTLE ROCK, AR.–A Northwest Arkansas McDonald’s owned by Mathews Management Company and Peach Orchard is set to pay $103,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The lawsuit claimed a man was fired from a McDonald’s in Bentonville after management learned of his HIV-positive status. The suit also charged that the companies’ policy of requiring all employees to report the use of prescription medication is unlawful. The EEOC said the conduct violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In addition to the money settlement, the companies conduct disability training for its managers and revise their policy requiring disclosure of prescription medication.

Mathews Management Company owns 34 McDonald’s fast-food chains, including all of the ones located in Northwest Arkansas.
