AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — Owners of front load washers could collect from a recent class action settlement.
“It smelled all the time and I was constantly having trouble with it…didn’t matter how much deodorizer you spray. run the cleaner through the machine. it still smelled,” Gina Randall said about her front load washer. She wasn’t alone with a smelly washer. Many consumers complained about a mold smell coming from their washing machines. Several class action lawsuits were filed.
Recently, U.S. District Court decided certain front load washers weren’t adequately self cleaning which caused mold to grow in the washers. The court ordered the manufactures to
pay consumers for the deficit.
Here are the washers included in the settlement:
- LG brand front loading washers built between 2002-2006
- Whirlpool, Kenmore, and Maytag brand front loading washers built between 2001 and 2010
The settlement amount varies depending on whether the consumer paid cash, made repairs, etc.
The deadline to file a claim is October 10, 2016. Consumers can file online but will need the model and serial number of their washer. It is located on the inside of the washer above where you load it.
