The School District of Lancaster was slapped with a class-action lawsuit Tuesday over its handling of older refugee students.
The U.S. District Court suit claims the district steered students to a disciplinary high school, rather than enroll them at McCaskey High School.
Six refugees, ages 17-21, are part of the lawsuit.
The ACLU claims the district illegally placed 30 students at the alternative school.
The students said they were denied access to English as a second language teachers and felt unsafe as a result.
The students said they want the court to admit them to McCaskey High School for the coming school year.
