Subway Promises Crucial Reforms to Guarantee Your Sandwich Is Really an Actual Foot Long

Eat fresh? More like eat lies.

Subway, everyone’s favorite purveyor of cheap, overcompensating sandwiches, promised this week to finally give customers every single inch of food they’ve long been promised.

For years, the sandwich chain has wooed customers around the world with the promise of “footlong” sandwiches starting at just $5 (recently upped to $6, ugh).

In early 2013, however, one brave man in Australia shared a (now deleted) photo of his Subway sandwich next to a ruler on Facebook, showing it to be just 11 inches.

On some level, we all probably knew it to be true, deep down, buried somewhere near the awareness that our pet bunny didn’t really just run away to elope with his soul mate on a pasture overlooking the seaside. But the revelation still sat in our guts like a rotten Subway sandwich.

Furious shortchanged Subway customers bombarded the company with complaints and questions on Facebook. And multiple Americans — America being the land of the litigious and the literal-minded — quickly filed lawsuits against the company.

At one point, Subway suggested the “footlong” was just a branding play, rather than a clear measurement fact. No. Just, no.

All of that bitter history can now be swept under the rug-sized loaf of bread.

Subway is just inches away from settling a class action lawsuit that would include a $500 payout to each of the 10 disappointed customers involved in the suit — and, more importantly, implement crucial reforms to guarantee its bread is worthy of the footlong title.

“We have already taken steps to ensure each guest receives the Footlong or six-inch sandwich they order,” Subway said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

So why all the fuss?

In times like these, we need something true to believe  — even if that truth is about an oversized sandwich.

America, as Donald Trump would say, is about to become a little more great again.
