Ticketmaster customers are feeling scammed as the company rolls out free tickets and discounts after settling a $400 million class action lawsuit for ripping off users.
While fans were eager to see their favorite acts on the concert giant’s dime, when Ticketmaster released its list of shows on Tuesday, that excitement quickly evaporated.
That is, unless you’re a big fan of Kidz Bop, following the Pitbull tour, or Panic! at the Disco.
Despite giving away tickets and vouchers to customers from a $400 million lawsuit settlement for ripping off customers, Ticketmaster and Live Nation users are still feeling ripped off.
The free tickets from the settlement, which affects 50 million people who bought tickets between Oct. 21, 1999 and Feb. 27, 2013, heavily features the stars of yesteryear: Seal, Def Leppard, Joan Jett and the Goo Goo Dolls.
Meanwhile, on Live Nation’s website, it’s advertising its top shows with Kanye West, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber — but not offering any free tickets for those high-demand concerts.
Here’s one of the many exciting shows you’ll be able to see thanks to Ticketmaster’s settlement case.
“Why give out vouchers to people where there are NO shows available to use them… seriously?” Katy Meininger wrote on Ticketmaster’s Facebook page.
And even if you’re among the few who happen to like your options, you’d better hope these shows are in actually in your town.
Users in several states, including Colorado, are left out of the Ticketmaster settlement.
Despite having Live Nation venues across the country, the voucher tickets will only be available in 19 states, leaving Ticketmaster customers near venues in Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan, Colorado and Washington high and dry.
“How very convenient that these vouchers you were made to release due to the fact that you spent over a decade ripping your customers off are good for random concerts scattered about the nation and in many cases nowhere near most of us,” Greg Maniha ranted on Ticketmaster’s Facebook page.
In New York, despite having two venues in New York City, the voucher tickets are only eligible in Saratoga Springs and Buffalo.
The company will offer 33 shows in New York City — mostly at Irving Plaza and Gramercy Theatre. The Proclaimers, who sing “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” will perform on Sept. 17 at Gramercy.
For other shows in the state, New Yorkers will have to drive more than 180 miles to the nearest venue at Saratoga Springs.
Users have been frustrated at the technical difficulties from the vouchers.
And along with poor options and locations, the rollout is marred with technical errors, with codes not working for many users.
The vouchers won’t be useful for about another two weeks, until the event list is finalized, Ticketmaster told frustrated users on social media.
Ticketmaster told users the codes wouldn’t be available until the list is finalized in about two weeks.
“If the initial list of events does not include an event in your area, please check back periodically, as new events will be added,” a spokesperson told the Daily News in an email.
Frustrations have been surging against the company, as Ticketmaster received an overwhelming demand for details in the confusion following the settlement.
“We are also experiencing extremely high call volumes and appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to address all inquiries,” the company said in a statement on Facebook.
Live Nation did not respond to the Daily News’s request for comment.
