Time’s Up for Justin Bieber to Come to Miami for Paparazzi Lawsuit

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Time is up for Justin Bieber to come to Miami by order of the court or face some new legal troubles in the Sunshine State.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jerald Bagley issued an order on September 28th which ordered  Justin Bieber to return to Miami within the next 30 days to give a deposition in a lawsuit filed by a photographer who accuses the singers’ bodyguards of attacking him inside a Subway restaurant in 2014.

It’s now been 30 days, so where is Bieber? He’s currently in Europe on his Purpose World Tour which doesn’t end until late November.

The problem is, Judge Bagley’s order states if Bieber doesn’t return within those 30 days to give that deposition, he’s going to issue a writ of bodily attachment, meaning police can bring him in if he doesn’t come voluntarily.

There’s been no word yet on whether or not the judge has issued that warrant for the singer’s arrest.

The photographer filing the lawsuit,  Manuel Munoz , claims the singer instructed his bodyguard, Dwayne Patterson, to lock him in a Subway sandwich restaurant in January 2014, after spotting the photographer taking pictures of Bieber leaving SET nightclub in Miami Beach. Munoz claimed the bodyguard demanded he delete the photos and attempted to remove the memory card before he kicked and punched him. In the process, he claimed his camera was damaged.

However, a police report does not state he was punched or kicked. It says the bodyguard tripped him, causing him to sustain a “small scratch on his left knee.”

The police report also states they haggled in the restroom with Munoz telling the bodyguard he’d give Bieber the pics for $10,000, but the bodyguard drew the line at $5,000.

The photographer’s lawyer, Mark DiCowden, reportedly wants to question Bieber about his previous altercations with fans and photographers.

The deposition is expected to be taped.

Munoz is seeking unspecified damages for the alleged altercation, which reportedly took place the same night Bieber was arrested by Miami Beach police officers, who spotted him drag racing a yellow Lamborghini against another sports car driven by R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff.

He was slapped with counts for driving under the influence (DUI), resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired license.

Bieber initially pleaded not guilty to the counts, only to strike a plea deal with prosecutors, which required him to enter guilty pleas for lesser, misdemeanor charges of careless driving and resisting arrest without violence.

Under the terms of the agreement, the DUI count was dropped and the singer was ordered to take a 12 hour anger management course, watch videos showing the impact of DUI crashes, pay court costs and make a $50,000 donation to charity.
