Zillow announced Monday it had agreed to pay $6 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by an Irvine employee accusing the firm of failing to pay overtime and pressuring employees to skip meal and rest breaks.
The Seattle-based online real estate company had announced the settlement in May, but hadn’t disclosed the terms until Monday.
The settlement had been contingent on a U.S. Labor Department review of Zillow and future compliance with the Federal Labor Standards Act, the company filing said. The firm and the Labor Department reached an agreement Monday on terms of future compliance, which affects ad sales persons in California and the state of Washington.
“Zillow agreed that it will … establish and maintain certain procedures to promote future compliance” with the labor standards act.
Despite the settlement, Zillow still does not admit any wrongdoing regarding treatment of its employees.
The settlement was one of four reached last spring with Irvine employees. Three other lawsuits accused the Seattle-based firm of of harassment, discrimination, retaliation and maintaining a “frat house” atmosphere at its Irvine sales office.
