Jury: SC Woman Gets $4.6 Million in Target Lawsuit

A jury has awarded an Anderson woman more than $4.6 million after she was stuck by a needle picked up in a Target parking lot. Before Carla Denise Garrison’s lawsuit against Target Corp. went to trial, her lawyer offered to settle with the retailer for $12,000, but the offer was rejected. When the trial concluded Thursday, a jury determined that Garrison was entitled to well more than that.



UCLA Settles Lawsuit With Graduate Students Alleging Title IX Violations

UCLA settled a lawsuit Thursday that was filed by two graduate students who claimed they were sexually harassed by professor Gabriel Piterberg. According to a UCLA statement, the UC Board of Regents agreed to pay one student $350,000 and the other student $110,000. They will also provide one of the students with a dissertation year fellowship in her final year of graduate school.

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against the 3M Co. by a man who claims he invented Post-it notes. Alan Amron settled a 1997 lawsuit against 3M but sued again in January.
