Dallas Judge Entirely Dismisses Lawsuit Tony Romo’s National Fantasy Football Convention Filed against NFL

Tony Romo’s National Fantasy Football Convention received more bad news this week.

The original lawsuit the NFFC filed against the NFL was entirely dismissed by Dallas judge Carl Ginsberg on Tuesday.

“We are very pleased by the court’s ruling dismissing all of the NFFC’s claims in this case,” said Thad Behrens, lead counsel for the NFL. “The court correctly found that all of NFFC’s claims were baseless, confirming that the NFL’s actions to protect its rights were entirely justified and appropriate.”

Attorneys for The Fan Expo, LLC, had argued that the NFL improperly contacted players last year through the NFL Players Association and their agents, leading to the inaugural event in Las Vegas being canceled.

“We disagree with Judge Ginsberg’s ruling,” Fan Expo attorney Julie Pettit said. “We, along with other trial and appellate lawyers following the case, believe the summary judgment was improperly granted.

“We will file a Notice of Appeal shortly. This case will simply take a ‘time-out’ while we wait for a decision from the Dallas Court of Appeals. We trust that the Fan Expo case will end up where it belongs — which is in front of a jury — so that the NFL is held responsible for its actions.”

This year’s NFFC event was scheduled to be held at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, Calif., July 15-17, however, it was officially postponed two weeks ago.

In an email to fans that purchased tickets, the NFFC said the event was postponed because of the NFL’s “blatant and continued interference.”

When asked about the postponement on June 15, Romo said it was the result of “a lot of little things.”

“I haven’t discussed it with [my business partners],” Romo said. “I’ve just kind of stayed away from the day-to-day operations.

“Obviously I just want the fans to be able to have a great event. But we’ll see the logistics part and why things happened the way they did. I just don’t have an answer for you as far as what the details were surrounding it all.”
