Muslim Women Target CA Restaurant With Islamophobia Lawsuit

A California restaurant is currently being targeted by a discrimination lawsuit set forth by a couple of Muslim women.

The Urth Caffe in Laguna Beach has a policy that people can dine at the outside tables for only 45 minutes when it’s packed due to the massive demand for those particular tables. After that they’re asked to share their table or leave the table and sit elsewhere. They can also wait in line or leave the restaurant.

This is what happened to Sara Farsakh and her fellow hijab-wearing friends on the evening of April 22 in the cafe, but Farsakh claimed in a lengthy Facebook post that she and her friends were only asked to leave because they were Muslim.

Farsakh wrote in a lengthy Facebook post that an employee named Tino asked them to leave the restaurant because of that policy, but Farsakh and her friends argued that they could stay since there were still plenty of available tables. Tino kept insisting that they needed to leave, and Farsakh and her friends refused to leave, so Tino called the police on them and they were escorted out.

“I truly believe that because I was sitting with visibly Muslim women, we were singled out when we were asked to leave,” whined Farsakh. “I can’t even begin to express the feelings of embarrassment and humiliation as police officers were called to escort out a group of Muslim women from a restaurant. Shame on you Urth Caffe for your disgusting and racist treatment of paying customers.”

But attorney David Yerushalmi, who is representing Urth Caffe, went on the Mark Levin Show to explain that it didn’t quite happen that way.

“They had been sitting at the table for well over an hour,” Yerushalmi told radio host Mark Levin. “The line was beginning to form, the crowds were coming in, the manager walked over and informed them of the policy, and simply had asked them to move tables. All of a sudden, several of the women started screaming, ‘You want us to leave the restaurant? We refuse to leave the restaurant!’ It was almost on cue, it was as if it were practiced. Two minutes later, another manager comes to just explain the policy. The women again are carrying on and causing the scene.”

The women then started taking videos of the other empty tables and complained about discrimination for being Muslim. Yerushalmi pointed out that it’s “expected” for the inside tables and those to the side of the patio to be empty.

“The policy is the policy,” Yerushalmi said. “There were other women in hijabs; they weren’t asked to leave because they were living by the policy.”

Eventually, the restaurant had to call the police to escort the women out.

The Council on American Islamic Relations, which Yerushalmi claims is a part of organizations that “call for the destruction of Israel”, then stepped in and helped Farsakh file a lawsuit against the Urth Caffe, so Yerushalmi filed a counter-suit in response.

“If it quacks like a setup and walks like a setup, it probably is a setup,” Yerushalmi said.

Levin agreed and explained to his audience that he knows the married couple–a Jewish man and a Muslim woman–who run the Urth Caffe, and said “they don’t have a bigoted bone in their body.” He encouraged people to check out the Urth Caffe.
