Legal-Bay Reports $20MM Jury Award in Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

Lawsuit definition highlighted

Regina Honts filed the lawsuit in 2013 against HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Gadsden, stating that her mother, Doris Green, 79 years old, had died from an allergic reaction to an opiate administered by hospital staff, even though there were “clear warnings” she was allergic to such drugs when she was admitted.

Doris Green was admitted to HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Gadsden in June of 2011 for two weeks of rehabilitation, and was supposed to then return home to live with her daughter, Regina Honts. However, in early July, a nurse found Doris Green in an unresponsive state. Green was attempted to be revived, and then sent to Gadsden Regional Medical Center where she arrived in a coma. Two tests later showed that opiates were in Green’s system. She was stabilized and sent home, however, according to an article in Anniston Star, “Green was soon shown to have suffered permanent brain damage because of her allergic reaction to the un-prescribed opiate and died on Oct. 22, 2011, as a result, the lawsuit states.”

The jury took three hours to reach the verdict, and awarded Honts $20 million.

Chris Janish, CEO of Legal-Bay, commented on the recent medical malpractice award, “Cases of this nature are unfortunate and can be tragic, sometimes resulting in wrongful death. Due to their complexity, medical malpractice cases can drag on for years, and our company can work with plaintiffs and attorneys with getting them large lawsuit funding advances to assist with their cash flow needs until they ultimately receive their settlement money.”

There are close to 100K wrongful deaths each year in the U.S. due to medical negligence and over 1MM personal injury lawsuit claims made each year as a result of medical malpractice. Legal-Bay funds medical malpractice and medical negligence cases, as well as judgment on appeal and verdict on appeal cases, and the company is dedicated to aiding victims and their family members during this difficult time with a lawsuit cash advance until their case can ultimately be settled or tried in court.
